Abstract

The global ecological crisis triggers an urgent need to reconstruct environmental theology, which historically has often been biased by the anthropocentric paradigm in classical exegesis. This study aims to critically analyze the deconstruction of the anthropocentric paradigm through the Tafsir Ayat-Ayat Ekologi published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, and to formulate its contribution to the development of contemporary ecotheology studies. This qualitative library research utilizes the Ministry of Religious Affairs' ecological exegesis document as its material object. Data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using the content analysis method. The results indicate that this tafsir represents a shift from a cognitive-explanatory scientific exegesis (tafsir ilmi) toward an ethically and transformatively oriented ecological exegesis. The sources of interpretation do not solely rely on texts (the Qur'an and Hadith) but also incorporate ecological rationality and the empirical realities of environmental crises, particularly within the Indonesian context. This approach gives rise to the contextual and solution-oriented characteristics of Ilmi Nusantara. Furthermore, the deconstruction of anthropocentrism is carried out through the reinterpretation of the concepts of taskhir, fasad, and khalifah, which previously tended to legitimize human dominance over nature. In this tafsir, these three concepts are redefined as the foundation of ecological ethics that emphasize responsibility, balance, and sustainability. Thus, this exegesis functions not only as a theological discourse but also as a normative foundation for the development of ecotheological awareness and environmental jurisprudence (fiqh al-bi'ah) in responding to the global ecological crisis.
