History Journal

Al-Afham: Journal of Islamic Studies is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by Sekolah Tinggi Islam Kendal, Indonesia. The journal was officially established in 2025 as part of the institution’s commitment to strengthening Islamic research and contributing to the development of knowledge in the field of Islamic studies.

At its inception, Al-Afham was designed to provide an academic platform for scholars, researchers, and practitioners to share their findings and critical insights on various aspects of Islamic research—ranging from Qur’anic and Hadith studies, theology, law, education, history, to contemporary issues related to Islam in global contexts.

Initially, the journal was managed entirely by the internal editorial team of Sekolah Tinggi Islam Kendal to ensure quality control and sustainable development. In line with its vision, the journal applies the Open Journal System (OJS) for submission and publication, following international standards of academic publishing.

The first issue of Al-Afham was published in Volume 1, Issue 1 (2024). Since its establishment, the journal has been published biannually (January–June and July–December) and adheres to the principles of open access publishing, allowing free and unrestricted access to its contents.
