Editorial Board Roles
Editor in Chief
The Editor in Chief has overall responsibility for the academic quality, editorial direction, and development of the journal. The responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the availability of a sufficient number of high-quality manuscripts to maintain the continuity of the publication schedule.
- Determining whether manuscripts are relevant to the journal’s focus and scope.
- Deciding whether calls for papers, special issues, or thematic editions are necessary.
- Establishing and appointing members of the Editorial Board and Editorial Team based on the journal’s needs, expertise, and institutional diversity.
- Working closely with the Managing Editor, Editorial Board, and Section Editors on the progress and development of the journal.
- Making final editorial decisions on manuscripts when necessary.
- Ensuring that the journal complies with publication ethics, peer-review standards, and applicable publishing policies.
- Considering activities that may support the sustainability and development of the journal.
- Promoting the journal through academic, professional, and institutional networks.
Managing Editor
The Managing Editor is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day editorial and administrative operations of the journal. The responsibilities include:
- Coordinating the overall editorial workflow from manuscript submission to publication.
- Monitoring the status of submitted manuscripts and ensuring that the editorial process runs according to the established schedule.
- Coordinating communication among the Editor in Chief, Section Editors, reviewers, authors, and technical editors.
- Assisting the Editor in Chief in implementing editorial policies and procedures.
- Monitoring deadlines for peer review, revision, copyediting, layout, and publication.
- Maintaining accurate editorial records and documentation.
- Supporting the preparation and publication of journal issues.
- Identifying and reporting delays or problems in the editorial process to the Editor in Chief.
- Assisting in the preparation of editorial meetings, reports, and journal development activities.
- Ensuring that administrative and technical aspects of manuscript processing are properly managed.
Editorial Board
The Editorial Board provides academic guidance and contributes to maintaining the scholarly quality and development of the journal. Editorial Board members should have expertise relevant to the journal’s field and an established academic publication record.
The responsibilities and qualifications include:
- Demonstrating expertise in disciplines relevant to the journal’s field.
- Having a strong and relevant publication record in reputable academic journals or scholarly publications.
- Having experience reviewing journal manuscripts or serving as a peer reviewer.
- Providing recommendations regarding journal policy, focus, scope, and academic development.
- Identifying emerging research themes, conferences, and potential topics for special or thematic issues.
- Supporting the recruitment of qualified authors and high-quality manuscripts through academic and professional networks.
- Providing recommendations and considerations in cases involving publication ethics issues.
- Providing academic recommendations regarding the acceptance, revision, or rejection of manuscripts when requested.
- Supporting the promotion and visibility of the journal within national and international academic communities.
- Maintaining confidentiality and avoiding conflicts of interest in all editorial activities.
Editorial Board membership is normally reviewed every 2–3 years to ensure active participation, academic diversity, and continued contribution to the journal.
Section Editor
The Section Editor is responsible for managing manuscripts within a specific academic section or subject area of the journal. The responsibilities include:
- Conducting an initial assessment of submitted manuscripts to determine their relevance to the journal’s scope and assigned section.
- Evaluating the academic quality, originality, and methodological appropriateness of manuscripts before peer review.
- Selecting and inviting qualified peer reviewers based on the subject and methodology of each manuscript.
- Coordinating the peer-review process and monitoring reviewers’ deadlines.
- Evaluating reviewers’ comments and formulating editorial recommendations regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection.
- Communicating editorial decisions and revision requests to authors.
- Monitoring revised manuscripts and assessing whether authors have adequately addressed reviewers’ comments.
- Ensuring that the review process is conducted fairly, objectively, and confidentially.
- Ensuring compliance with the journal’s publication ethics and editorial policies.
- Reporting significant academic or ethical concerns to the Managing Editor or Editor in Chief.
Copy and Layout Editor
The Copy and Layout Editor is responsible for the technical preparation of accepted manuscripts for publication. The technical editorial team consists of Language Editors and Layout Editors.
The Layout Editor is responsible for preparing the final manuscript according to the journal’s publication format. The responsibilities include:
- Formatting accepted manuscripts according to the journal’s template and publication standards.
- Ensuring consistency in page layout, typography, headings, tables, figures, captions, and other visual elements.
- Preparing article headers, including short titles and other required publication information.
- Including relevant publication details such as submission, review, acceptance, and publication dates.
- Preparing the final version of articles for online publication and, where applicable, print publication.
- Conducting a final technical check before publication.
- Coordinating with the Language Editor and Managing Editor to resolve technical and formatting issues.
English Language Advisor
The English Language Advisor is responsible for advising on the quality and appropriateness of academic English used in manuscripts published by the journal. The responsibilities include:
- Checking grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and academic writing style.
- Ensuring consistency in terminology, abbreviations, capitalization, and academic expressions.
- Improving the clarity and coherence of the manuscript without changing its substantive meaning.
- Checking the consistency of citations, references, tables, figures, headings, and captions.
- Identifying and correcting typographical and language errors.
- Coordinating with the Section Editor and English Language Advisor when necessary.
