Al-Afham: Journal of Islamic Studies

These “Al-Afham: Journal of Islamic Studies Author Guidelines” are effective starting from the 2025 issue. Use this checklist to ensure your manuscript is ready for submission. For more detailed information, refer to the Publication Ethics section on our website. By submitting a manuscript to Al-Afham, authors retain their rights under the CC-BY 4.0 license, which allows others to use, distribute, and modify the work under specific conditions.

Please:

  • Review the Focus and Scope to ensure your manuscript aligns with the journal’s objectives.
  • Use the provided Microsoft Word template for manuscript preparation.
  • Address publication ethics, copyright, authorship, figure formatting, data handling, and reference formatting properly.
  • Confirm that all authors have approved the submitted manuscript’s content.
  • Authors may include a short biography with their submission

Manuscript Submission Overview

  • Publication Type: Manuscripts should be 5,000–7,000 words, including abstract, references, and appendices.
  • Al-Afham publishes only original research articles, not previously published or under review elsewhere.
  • Submissions must provide a sound analytical framework, new insights, and meet the journal’s criteria.

Manuscript Submission Process

  • Manuscripts must be submitted online via the Open Journal System (OJS)https://jurnal.stikkendal.ac.id/index.php/delvi.alafham/index.
  • The submitting author (usually the corresponding author) is responsible for submission and communication during review.
  • All co-authors must be listed and approve the submission.
  • Authors will be notified of each stage of the review process by email

Accepted File Format

  • Manuscripts must be prepared using the Microsoft Word template.
  • Figures and tables must be placed close to their first mention in the text.
  • Identifying metadata must be removed before submission.
  • Supplementary files can be uploaded in common formats (Word, Excel, JPEG, PNG, PDF).

Manuscript Preparation

The Al-Afham: Journal of Islamic Research accepts free-format manuscripts but requires specific sections: Title, Author Information, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Method (if applicable), Results and Discussion, Conclusion, Figures and Tables, and References. Referencing should follow the Chicago Manual Style of 17 (Full Note) style, using tools like Mendeley or Zotero for consistency (See Template).

  • Title: Maximum 12 words, concise, and representing the content. Written in Garamond 14pt, bold.
  • Author Information: Full name(s) without academic titles, affiliation(s), and email address(es). The corresponding author must be marked with an asterisk (*).
  • Abstract and Keywords: Abstract written in both English and Indonesian, 200–250 words each, in a single paragraph. Must include research problem, method, main findings, and conclusion. Provide 3–5 keywords. Format: Garamond 11pt.
  • Introduction: Contextualize the research, define its purpose, significance, research gap, and objectives. Properly cite previous studies. Typically 2–3 paragraphs leading to research questions.
  • Method: Describe research design, data sources, and analytical framework. For conceptual papers, this may be integrated into the introduction.
  • Results and Discussion: Present and interpret findings, relate them to existing research, and highlight contributions. Figures and tables must be integrated within the text and numbered sequentially.
  • Conclusion: State the implications of the findings, directly addressing the research question posed in the introduction. Avoid repeating the abstract.
  • References: Minimum of 25 references, with at least 40% from journals or primary sources, published within the last 5–10 years. Follow Cichago Manual Style 7th Full Note. Only cited references should appear in the list.

Figures, Tables, and Supplementary Materials

  • Figures must be high-resolution (minimum 1000 px or 300 dpi).
  • Preferred formats: TIFF, JPEG, EPS, PDF.
  • Colour figures are accepted at no extra charge.
  • Tables and figures should be numbered sequentially and placed near their first reference.
  • Captions must be descriptive and clear.
